Description

Ideally, transparency can empower users to make informed decisions about their use of technology and to better understand what is shaping their information environment. However, different approaches to transparency may be needed to serve users from communities that face increased barriers and challenges when participating in online services. How can online services improve transparency to benefit users from communities that are disproportionately targeted with abuse, harassment, and disinformation? What changes are needed to improve transparency for users who do not speak English as their native language? This session will feature researchers and advocates with expertise in online abuse, harassment, and disinformation, to explore what transparency users and communities are looking for and what actually helps them take control of their online experiences.
