Technology underpins and shapes all of our online communications. Technical design choices in site structure, moderation systems, ranking algorithms, and user interfaces can all affect how people engage with information, and with each other. The right combination of technologies and policies can foster healthy engagement between individuals and communities; the wrong combination can be manipulated to drive disinformation and discord. This panel will explore how technical choices affect the nature of online conversations and help or hinder media literacy and constructive dialogue.
