Laura Hazard Owen is the deputy editor at Harvard University's Nieman Journalism Lab, where she writes and edits stories about innovation in digital journalism. She also writes a weekly column on fake news research, misinformation/disinformation, and the role of platforms.She was previously the managing editor and digital book publishing reporter for GigaOM. Her beat included ebooks and e-readers, Amazon, pricing, marketing, bestsellers, DRM, self-publishing, startups and technology, and other industry trends.
Prior to GigaOM/paidContent, she was the editorial director of Publishing Trends, a newsletter for the book publishing industry from book publishing consulting firm Market Partners International. Her first job out of college (Harvard class of 2006) was assistant editor at Skyhorse Publishing, an independent publisher in New York.
